When you hear about something wrong in the world,it is easy to feel powerless to change it…but never have i ever been fired for being gay. i worked here at cascades grandview in the front office as a lease consultant not on pay roll,i worked 25hrs aweek for rent. it all started on 12-1-2010 when a new property management group came in to take over called Signature management “the most respected name in property management”…. it seemed like things were going to turn around here i was excited to be part of such a powerful turn over…little did i know it was for the worst. Not only myself but Rose jackson (a well respected transgender woman) and David Reed(an out and proud gay man) were all terminated. david was terminated on 12-9-2010 for “false information on his application”,rose jackson then terminated on 12-10-2010 “for false information”as well. they both asked for copies of their applications and of course were denied l…. i on the other hand still stayed employed but had it rough in the office. the new property manager joan roberson had it out for me and made each day in the office a living hell. joan made it clear that when she first came in to office that she is a very Religious woman in search of a church she loved as much as the one she had back home,it started when i asked her to switch a day of work. she asked why and i didnt feel that i should lie about my life or life style so i proudly said i do night time entertainment here in the community…she didnt have a problem until she found out it was the gay community. i then proceeded to tell her about me performing as a drag king. Before signature management came on rose would help me out at the front desk, david and i were informed not to have rose behind the desk because “a tranny isnt the first thing a parent needs to see when interested in renting our suites for their student”. rose was then no longer allowed to give tours or be behind the desk AT ALL!in the result of being fired we were asked to vacate the property in 30 days.. we by no means want our jobs back.. we just want to be heard!!!!
i could go on and on about this situation but i feel like you guys kinda get the point. PLEASE help us stand up and fight for whats ours…OUR RIGHTS!!! we have called the corporate office and Mike B. Smith (ceo and president of signature management) said,”that we were never employee’s of signature management, nor were we applicants and he knew for a fact that we were not discriminated against.”
if you feel like this is a fight worth fighting for please meet us here at cascades grandview 830 w. market st. greensboro nc(right next to Qlounge) around 1pm refreshments will be provided!!
thank you for your time and i hope to see everyone out to help us fight against discrimination!!!!

I am commenting on this post as an openly lesbian woman under the current employment of Signature Management. In the time that I have been employed with Signature I have never experienced discrimination, maltreateatment,or anything other than the equal respect and treatment that any human being could expect from an employer. I have also worked closesly with Joan and experienced nothing but professional respect, support and fair treatment. As a member of the gay community I passionately support the pursuit of equal rights for all men and women regardless of age, gender, race or sexual orientation however I do strongly believe in this particular situation no violation of rights have occured.
